poorani jeans aur tshirt is an initiative to provide clothing to the needy, to help them live their life with dignity..I, Prabhkiran Singh, a 3rd yr student at IIT BOMBAY just thought of doing something for the cause..With the full help of Ankush Thapa,my batchmate we intend to make this initiative a success by involving more and more people as volunteers..There already are 1-2 cloth donation camps taking place in my college during a year..These were carried out by placing cloth collection bags at various places in the college campus.. But i found those not much effective because many of my friends did'nt donated clothes and they said they surely would have donated something when i asked whether they would donate anything if approached at their own room.

Keeping this in mind, we intend to collecting clothes from people from their room itself..covering each and every room of the campus..so people, play your part for the cause..we are coming soon to your room :)

Such a donation s not charity .. itz our obligation .. itz our duty ..

The moment you open your closet, the first thing that you see is a t-shirt which you dont need...A t-shirt you are sick and tired of which, you want to get rid of which...And you dont know what to do with it.

Especially in colleges, where we have loads of college t-shirts floating like those pertaining to hostel, fests,departments & various clubs in the institute.

What i have personally seen, is that many a times you dont like the design or the colour of the t-shirt and you never really do wear them.
But its still lying in your closet lying as a waste doing nothing.Or you may have a cloth with stain, tear or hole in it.

Be a courteous donor.Get rid of them.

Remember there is no small act of Kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no
logical end.

Goonj has undertaken a initiative of addressing a woman's basic need by turning old cloth into clean cloth sanitary napkins.Goonj is providing clean cloth napkins to rural/slum women while spreading awareness in rural and urban india on this taboo issue.

The problem that the poor indian women faces during menses may not be seeming pertinent so far with the cloth donation at all. But Goonj an NGO is opening up the most taboo & ignored subject of menstrual hygiene; a female health hazard by involving masses in generating an affordable cloth napkin.

Goonj is an organistaion intended to make clothes a matter of concern. A unique resource mobilization initiative providing clothes and other basic amenities to millions in the far-flung villages by turning one’s wastage into a resource for another. Initiated in 1998 with just 67 clothes, it now send out over 20,000 kgs of material every month. A force of countless volunteers, GOONJ is implementing its various initiatives through over 150 grassroot organisations, panchayats, Ashoka fellows & social activists in parts of 20 states of the country.

Such a noble act, there is no doubt that it has won the india NGO of the year award.

Some harsh realties !!

In the absence of clean cloth, women use the dirtiest rags.
Living with meager resources, a clean cloth s the last priority in the minds of most village women.
In village Giddha, Bihar, many moosahari women don't use anything during menses, and they cant take a bathbecause they dont have anything to change into.
There are cases where women dont even use anything during menses.
In some parts of rajasthan, women use sand or rags during menses.
In Uttaranchal, Bihar and many other places women also use ash as an absorbent during menses.
The lack of appropriate and adequate sanitation facilities prevents adoloscent girls, from attending schools particularly when they are menstruating

We get that thing all throughout life what we donate. That is the reason why we should donate all kinds of things. One can attain eternal bliss by doing charity. The fruits of donation and charity are simply limitless. Wealth invested on interest basis becomes double while wealth invested in business becomes a fortune. Wealth invested in agriculture becomes 100 times the original and wealth donated to the worthy becomes limitless. Amongst the great Karmas to be performed charity is the greatest amongst them. A person who donates is known as saviour of life.

Half the country does not need a disaster to be helped !!!

India has around 35% of its billion population living below the poverty line, with the majority of the poor living in the villages.In the struggle for food and shelter, they are forced to ignore the third basic necessitie of life i.e. clothing.These are well known facts to one and all and need no buttressing.No one can be so blind to never have seen kids roadside with almost no clothes at all whether in the hot freaking summers or in the cold biting winters.Surely no one is that blind.But everyone is surely ignorant, and i would say our society is the culprit,because we can prevent it.Its would certainly seem not of any concern to us.We cant buy them clothes from our parent's hard earned money.But still its only us who has the solution to it.And the solution lies in your closet.

Our society is generous enough to donate clothes for the needy only in the times of disaster.But why should the country wait for a disaster to be helped??

Its upto the youth of the country, to be the change they wish to see in the world.For someone has to take the onus for it,to help the poor people survive themselves,to live with dignity.
